Women Composers of the 18th Century

I was listening to Maddalena's Laura Lombardini Sirmen's (such a LONG name!) Concerto No. 5 for Violin and Orchestra for one of my entries for my first listening journal....I was so taken aback by this music I was hearing. Not only is that piece incredible, but the other pieces on the cd are pretty freakin' awesome. I really like the Sinfonia in C by Marianne Martines (go figure with the name similarity), it really is beautiful. I find it sort of comical that this cd is just women composers, and then the orchestra that performed the pieces is the "Bay Area Women's Philharmonic"...probably not meant to be feminist, but still kind of funny. I did not get a chance to listen to the whole cd, but I will be coming back when I have time to listen more. For those of you who are interested, the cd call# is 94:13. This is seriously good stuff, I'm not even joking. Kudos to Dr. Granade for picking cool music. So...my ears are sort of becoming smushed by the large and heavy headphones in the library...I will write more later!

Tschuss!
